WIP Wednesday

It has been a while since I've checked in so I have a few things to share today.

I have made a little progress on the Rapid City quilt with a few more blocks completed.  Other blocks can be found here.  I am slowly getting there.

For my second WIP.  I have joined a few rows of hexagons.  I found the hexagons were quick to make but sewing them all together is taking me some time.  I have been sewing them when I get a chance to watch tv and am not too tired to focus.

I would love to know how small you do your whip stitch when joining them.  I have been doing them quite small as I want the hexagons to eventually be a cushion cover but I am wondering whether I am going a little crazy.

And for something new to show I have started work on a cot quilt.  This one is an order from a family member and her only guidelines were for it to be purple and green.

I've used the Abracadbra Quilt pattern along with a Posy by Aneela Hoey layer cake.  I love the colours in this collection and I think this quilt design really shows off the cute patterns.  I have added some Kona  Lavender blocks to bring out the purple more as well.

I included a couple of photos as the ones I took outside look a little washed out.

Tasmania Bushfires Quilt Appeal

Australia is currently being affected by a number of bushfires across many states.

Jess (who is from Hobart in Tasmania) and blogs at The Elven Garden is organising donations of children and baby quilts to help many families who have lost so much.

Please jump over to this blog to read more.

Thanks
Kirsty

BOM not completed

The past week certainly hasn't gone as planned.

Last Thursday I was to start my Marti Michell BOM class at Sew This & That and instead I was at home with vertigo.  I was thinking if my husband drove me it'd be all good but I was not being realistic.  I just wanted to go so badly!

So no sewing has happened around here as a result of me being in bed for the majority of the time.

I am starting to feel better again now so hoping to get back to sewing this weekend.

WIP Wednesday

Well it feels great to be back behind the sewing machine after a break over Christmas.  My first project for the year is a quilt for my husband.  I think he was feeling a little left out :)

When I asked him what colours he'd like, he answered 'blue' so I asked 'what other colours would you like?' and he continued to answer 'blue and blue'.  So that is almost what he's getting.  I decided it needed a little something and added in a splash of red.

Block A - are all completed.

Block B - are all completed.

Block C - are in progress

And then there are the pile of bags with the remainder of the quilt

I decided to make the Rapid City quilt from the book Modern Patchwork by Elizabeth Hartman.

I am using Michael Miller's Cotton Couture Indigo for the background and for the backing and Cotton Couture Fog for the trees.  I was a little worried that some of the darker blues would blend a little too much but seeing them now I am happy that there is enough difference in their depth of colour.

In other news, I have booked myself in for some sewing classes at Sew This & That over the next 3 months which I am excited about.  My first one is tomorrow night and is for the BOM using Marti Michell templates.  This is something completely new to me, so I am excited about learning something new.

I'll be back later in the week with an update on the class.

I hope everyone is having a great week.

Thanks for stopping by.
